Before the holdays are over, I want to post some Santa pictures. But not the usual kind, although I did photograph many darling kids with the Jolly Old Elf. This post is going to the dogs . . . literally.

I have recently discovered a great resource, the K9 Center of East Tennessee. I wanted to get my Bronx some training and at the recommendation of one of my “Santas,” enrolled him there. The owner, Trish, learned that I was a photographer and asked if, by chance, I could do their annual Santa pictures for clients. Indeed, i can - and this is a good example of “Studio Anywhere,” the ability to bring a studio setting to a space at a client’s home or business. I had a larger setup at my studio for Santa and scaled it back. The space we used was the “puppy pit” where little guys romp and play.

Temporary Christmas studio setup at K9 Center

I apologize for the “potato” quality of this cellphone shot.

As you can see, it is a working area temporarily transformed into a studio for the pups to come and meet Santa. So, how did it work out? Well, while you can’t guarantee a child, two-legged or four legged, will be thrilled to meet Santa, you can get studio quality pictures in a small space if you are willing to put in the time and effort. And it is worth it - just look at these faces (click on any thumbnail in the gallery to see the full image).

Picture Day! Trish and I have some plans for the upcoming year where her clients can take advantage of simple photoshoots for their pups in whimsical and unique settings. One of my personal projects will be to get an underwater casing for my camera so when the pool is open at the center, I can try out capturing images of the dogs as they dive into the water, from below.

Here is a question - would your facility, whether it is a canine boarding business or a martial arts studio for youth, benefit from offering your clients a picture day? Let me work with you to put together an event that adds value to the service you are already providing!
