A Chance Encounter in New York

There Is Always Time for an Impromptu Portrait

Recently, I went to New York to photograph a wedding in the western part of the state.  But the trip also had me and a fellow photographer friend schlepping around the streets of New York City with our cameras.

It was in the DUMBO section that we walked into an open court and I saw this lovely woman outside of Cecconi's restaurant.  Meet Tiffany, who very graciously agreed to have her picture made.  The light coming in from the East River was beautiful and I did not want to let the opportunity pass by.

I am always grateful for people who allow me to do portraiture in chance encounters.  Many thanks to Tiffany - I hope we can meet up again!

Let's call this street portraiture.  I love street photography, but that is a genre of photography where you capture a unique moment as it happens amidst the seconds of an average day.  Street portraiture is making a portrait of a subject in their environment in a chance encounter in a short period of time.  Candid versus mindful.
