When I learned that Madelon wanted to start her ceremony at 5:00 pm, I was confused at first. Didn’t she realize that sunset in late November would be occurring at around 5:20 pm? As a photographer, I am always judging situations for the quantity and quality of light.

And here is something to know. I was not concerned for myself because as I tell my clients, if I need to, I bring the light. I was thinking more of Madelon - but I did not need to. That smart girl already knew what I knew, and that was natural light has a way of becoming beautiful at sunset and getting more so until . . . it’s gone. Sure, in the summer, that time frame is elongated. A sunset at 9:00 pm can have us working with the light left in the sky until just past 10:00 pm. In the colder months, though, it will be lovely but not for long. So, work fast! But wait - just because night has fallen doesn’t mean the camera gets shut down. The night allows for some fun with lights and ambience.

Madelon and James had a lovely evening wedding just before Thanksgiving at one of the finest venues, Hiwassee River Weddings in Delano, Tennessee. There is a ethereal romance about having a river running nearby and the setting in the woods of the venue among the loblolly pines is magical.

I admired the men’s choice of clothing, declaring their country roots in pants made by Carhartt. Don’t knock it - Carhartt wear is known for being durable and steadfast, and such is the man that James is, especially for his bride. And Madelon? Breathtakingly beautiful! A simple and intimate gathering of friends and family shows the celebration of a marriage does not need to be elaborate. No, what makes it is that it is heartfelt - and Madelon and James’ wedding was definitely that.

So, a setting sun, the night creeping in slowly, and the last light shining on the water - sometimes a moment like that may not last long but the beauty it brings lasts forever in memories. And Madelon and James have it for theirs.
