Who says it is just the bride and her bridesmaids that are to be pampered pre-wedding?

A trend I am seeing more of is the groom taking his guys for some bonding and straight razor shaves before a wedding. I think it’s wonderful. I usually see grooms adopt the attitude of “well, just tell me when I need to be where and I’ll throw on the suit . . .” Nah, bro - this is your special time as well, and why don’t you show your guys that you appreciate them for having your back.

Which is just what Daniel did before his wedding to Shelby in October 2019. He and his groomsmen, as well as some family members and friends, gathered at All City Barber Co. in Chattanooga to get some attention. And some beer - there is a kegerator in the front for the clientele.

And a great atmosphere as well. It is a unisex barber shop, but avoids the frills to bring some good, straightforward dressing and care. It is enjoyable to see skilled barbers ply their trade and frankly, between the smells of sandalwood and the steam rising to heat towels to soften skjin, it is a place I could spend a couple of hours in for a treatment myself.

Daniel has always impressed me as a man who values quality and craftsmanship. I can attest to his own, as he is a skilled electrician who has done work for me. So it is not surprising that he chose to do this - it is, I think, the mark of a gentleman.

So, grooms - it is a special occasion, your wedding. Return to a time when a man’s toilet was nothing insignificant and care was taken to ensure he would look his best, and be set above other men. I hope to see more grooms opt for this treatment - it is civilized and sophisticated, no?

Do you have a gathering of gentlemen who deserve to be immortalized in photos? Give me a holler and let’s talk!
