Morgan and Jake Bury the Bourbon

“Steph, do you want to come watch Jake and I bury the bourbon?”

Morgan posed that question to me before the wedding. Now, now - don’t think I am implying something else here. What she and Jake were going to do was to follow an old Southern tradition. According to the tradition. a couple goes to the site where their wedding will take place around one month before the wedding and they bury a bottle of bourbon. The bottle is then dug up for their rehearsal dinner and by doing this, they will enjoy the same weather on their wedding day as the day when they buried the bottle.

Tennessee dirt is not the easiest thing to dig up!

Morgan and Jake had to reschedule their wedding from May to August because of the pandemic, so in July we all met up down at their venue, The Views at Sunset Ridge, to bury the bourbon. Of course I had to be there - I love a good tradition as much as I love, well, a good bourbon.

And a very good bourbon it was, Col. E. H. Taylor Small Batch from Buffalo Trace Distillery. After all, the stakes were high - wedding day weather!

It is not your typical couples activity, but then Morgan and Jake - bringing together the finest of Kentucky and Georgia - are not your typical couple. Shared interests include fine bourbon and turkey hunting . . . yes, together!

After the bourbon was buried, a toast was shared by Morgan and Jake with their parents.

The question is . . . did it work?
